How to Install the FIA WF921-45 Winter & Bug Grille Screen Kit
This kit includes both a winter grille cover and a mesh bug screen, plus two types of hardware:
-
Stick-A-Stud™ no-drill fasteners (adhesive style)
-
Drill-on studs & screws (traditional install)
You can choose the method that works best for your vehicle and preference.
Tools Needed (for drill-on method)
-
Drill with 3/32″ bit (for pilot holes)
-
Masking tape
-
Marker or pencil
-
Template or paper (optional)
Installation – Option A: No-Drill with Stick-A-Stud™
This method uses adhesive fasteners and installs without drilling into your vehicle’s grille surround.
-
Clean the install area — wipe the grille surface with isopropyl alcohol so adhesive will stick.
-
Attach Stick-A-Stud™ fasteners to the screen — peel the backing and press onto the grille cover in the recommended locations.
-
Position the grille screen where it sits evenly across the front grille opening.
-
Firmly press each Stick-A-Stud™ fastener onto the vehicle surface — hold each for about 10 seconds.
-
Let adhesive set for 24 hours for best bond strength.
-
Snap the bug screen or winter cover onto the studs — the screen will lock onto the domes or clips.
Tip: Adhesive bonds better on warm, dry surfaces — if it’s cold, warm the grille with a hair dryer before applying.
Installation – Option B: Drill-On Studs & Screws
If you prefer a more permanent installation with hardware rather than adhesive:
-
Position the bug screen against the grille and temporarily hold it with tape.
-
Use the screen as a template and mark where each stud will go.
-
Tape a paper template over the grille and mark the drill points through the screen.
-
Drill small pilot holes through the grille frame using a 3/32″ bit where marked.
-
Install the studs and screws included with the kit into the grille frame.
-
Snap the grille screen or winter panel onto the studs until it clicks into place.
-
Tighten the screws just enough to secure — do not overtighten.
Quick Installation Tips
-
Always start with the bug screen first, then swap in the winter panel when temperatures drop.
-
If you use the Stick-A-Stud™ system, avoid wet conditions until the adhesive has fully set.
-
When drilling, use a light touch and a small pilot hole — grille plastics can crack if drilled too large.
